A highlight of our trip! We visited on a Wednesday afternoon just as they were opening, and the place filled up quickly. This place is so unique, with sawdust on the floors and all kinds of interesting things to look at. They serve 2 types of beer - light or dark, and each order gives you 2 beers. My husband had the dark and I had the light and they were both very good. We also ordered hamburgers, which were very tasty. Be sure to read the history and trivia of McSorley's before you go so you know to look for the handcuffs, wishbones and more.

This was a great place to grab a beer or two and a hot dog. The servers were enthusiastic, and the hot dogs were amazingly good. The light ale was delicious. It smells like an old bar, which was fitting to its history. Will come back here again when I'm in town.

Stepping into this old-school beer house in New York feels like walking straight into history. The sawdust-covered floors, the worn wood, and the constant hum of conversation give it an atmosphere that’s both gritty and welcoming. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t try too hard—because it doesn’t have to. The beer selection keeps things simple: a light and dark option, done right. No endless menu, no overthinking—just solid, satisfying pours that fit the vibe perfectly. And with how busy it gets, you quickly learn to squeeze in where you can and go with the flow. That’s part of the charm. Despite the crowd, the service holds up—friendly, efficient, and unpretentious. Prices are refreshingly reasonable too, especially for New York. Didn’t get a chance to dive into the food this time, but that just gives me a good reason to come back. And I definitely will.

A great historic dive bar. They have sawdust on the floor, and still haven’t quite caught onto that whole “seats at a bar” thing that started up around the 1920’s. I stood at the bar, and was served quickly and attentively. I enjoyed the dark ale, which is served frothy in two glasses. The price was quite reasonable, especially for NYC. The staff was nice, and the other customers diverse and friendly. It’s not the Waldorf, and obviously doesn’t try to be, so if you set reasonable expectations for a classic dive bar experience, you’ll have a fun time. Will visit again!

McSorley's Old Ale House is an absolute treasure and one of the most authentic places I’ve experienced in New York. I was there on a Saturday afternoon, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I left a bar feeling this happy and fulfilled. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the history, atmosphere, and unique charm that so many places try to imitate but rarely achieve. The vibe was warm, lively, and at the same time incredibly relaxed. Exactly the kind of place where you plan to stop in for “just one beer” and end up staying for hours. The ale was excellent, the people were friendly and welcoming, and everything felt genuine and unpretentious. For me, this afternoon was a real highlight in New York. Places with this much character, warmth, and soul are incredibly rare. If you want to experience the real spirit of the city, you absolutely have to visit McSorley’s. I already can’t wait to come back.
